Vitamin D and the Flu

Here is just one study done in school children that shows effectiveness of vitamin D in preventing the flu as well as lessening asthmatic consequences when the subjects did fall ill with the flu. Children are readily exposed to many germs and viruses through contact with numerous classmates as well as shared cafeterias, lockers, play structures, storage bins and toys. Also, many places in the United States do not offer enough sunshine for children to make vitamin D in their skin in the winter months. This study shows a good response to a normal dosage of vitamin in school children in preventing the flu and in reducing asthmatic attacks in those that did catch the flu. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20219962 There are many more studies showing the benefit of vitamin D on the immune system.
